This morning the decision was made to make today our first Intensive Observational Period (IOP). With forecasts for the clearest night time conditions we’ve had since first arriving in Hailuoto, we will have a chance to work the kinks out of our procedures. Conditions are quite windy, and unfortunately the GFI team’s first SUMO profile had to be aborted at around 750 m with winds at 20 m/s. We will continue to attempt some lower profiles with the Bebop2met, up to around 200 m. The teams will all be coordinating with and supporting one another; OU also making low profiles with their Coptersondes, and UT flying racetrack patterns with MASC for calculating turbulent fluxes.
