Installation

The last three days we’ve been busy preparing our 10-m mast and today it could finally be erected. Now we are sampling data on turbulence at three different levels. Three additional levels with standard observations on horizontal wind, temperature and humidity will give more detailed insight in the vertical gradients. So everything is running and providing reasonable observations. Just in time for the coming night which looks promising – cold, calm, clear sky – the ideal combination if you’re looking for very stable stratification.

Our other equipment is almost ready: The 3D sodar is will be finished tomorrow morning and our second meteorological mast, with which we will aim to capture coherent structures is also planned to be set up tomorrow. Most of our UAV systems have been up in the air for some test flights and will be ready for scientific missions by tomorrow.

    1. We use 230VAC power. In the beginning this was bothering us a bit since we had to move quite far out on the ice to get away from the ice-ridges and have a nice footprint. So we have more than 400m of extension cord out there but this seems to work perfectly fine.
